Key Board messages - Here-turi-kōkā / August 2023

Te Korowai Board met on 25 Here-turi-kōkā 2023 for the bi-monthly hui.  Much of the hui was dedicated to considering messages for the incoming board and preparing for the AGM the following day.

The following highlights can be shared:

  • The Pouwhakarae acknowledged the outgoing trustees (John Hooker, John Kahupukoro, Te Aroha Hohaia, Grant Weston and Caroline Scott) and thanked management for their support to the board. The outcome of trustee elections in the Ngāti Tū and Kānihi-Umutahi electorates should be known on or around 7 Mahuru.
  • The board received and noted the positive outcome of the Taranaki Maunga ratification process and approved the signing of Te Ruruku Pūtakerongo (Taranaki Maunga Collective Redress Deed) on Friday 1 September at Owae Marae, Waitara.   Te Korowai o Ngāruahine thanked the negotiation team for their service and acknowledged ngā tupuna, including our own Aunty Daisy Noble, who have been fighting for over 150 years for the legal recognition of Te Kāhui Tupua.
  • The board received updates from the Tumu Whakarae of Te Korowai, te Mana Hautū of Te Kīwai Mauī and the Pouwhakarae of Te Kīwai Mauī.
