Te Korowai Kaimahi

The year – 2040.  This marks the 200 anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.  This is a significant milestone in our history, and the Board has chosen 2040 as an important focal point.

Vision – Ka ora taku toa, kia tū Ngāruahine ai tātou.  Ka ora taku toa was taken from the ngeri ‘Titokowaru’, composed by Dr Huirangi Waikerepuru.  This ngeri acknowledges Titokowaru as both a man of war and peace.   ‘Ka ora taku toa’ represents our growth from a period of chaos towards light and empowerment and this phase building relationships to achieve understanding is the priority for this strategy.  The Board has retained the previous vision of ‘Kia tū Ngāruahine ai tātou’ which means Ngāruahine proud because it is still relevant.

Mission – A healthy, wealthy and culturally vibrant iwi.  This is the purpose of Te Korowai o Ngāruahine Trust, to pursue kaupapa that will lead to Ngāruahine achieving its vision.

Values  These have not changed since the first strategy was developed in 2009.

Strategic Pou and Strategic Priorities.  We have replaced the pākeha pou and are using Māori references.  Mana Motuhake replaces politically savvy.  Ngāruahinetanga replaces culturally competent, Manaakitanga replaces socially responsible, Tahua o Puanga Kairau replaces financially sound and a new pou Kaitiakitanga has been added.  Three strategic priorities have been identified, and they are relationships, capability, and self-reliance.  Together these pou provide the guidance for the initiatives identified in this plan.
